Football Awards Day – Denis Shannon Cup / Wooden Spoon -13th June 2017
The school football league has concluded for another year and what a great league it was! 73 children from 2nd to 6th class took part making up 8 teams. We saw some fantastic displays of football during the matches. Many of the games were very close with some even going to extra time! The Denis Shannon Cup is a tradition upheld in the School over the last number of years and fosters much friendly competition within the county teams. Dublin were crowned champions this year, narrowly beating Carlow in the final. Dublin were captained by Sinéad Thompson and the team included Alex Perse, James Ingram, Shane Lawlor, Clíodhna Hayden, Emily Gleeson, Harry O’ Brien, Jacob Curran and Amber Byrne. Carlow, the runners up, were captained by Josh Donegan and the team included Erín McElligot, Jake O’ Brien, Paddy Walshe, Ally Ryan, Lara Fitzgerald, Corey Ryan, Walter Webb and Keith Moore.
Many thanks to Ms Meaney for all her hard work over the last few weeks, organising, training, supporting and refereeing the many pre-final matches for the Denis Shannon Cup Tinryland All School League.
Also thanks to the GAA Mentors Michael & Cian for their support and training over the season. Many thanks to Brendan Hayden for his refereeing skills today also.
A special word of thanks to Paul Broderick, our local football hero for joining us today and presenting medals. We also had our new Carlow Mayor, Jim Deane, join us for the Awards ceremony making it a very special day for the school.
Jill Farrell receives the coveted Wooden Spoon for Co Offaly.

Team Dublin, winners, with their medals and the ‘Denis Shannon’ cup

Team Carlow, runners up, with their medals.
Four Special Players were identified and honoured today also in both the Junior and Senior Categories: Best Senior and Junior plaques for Boys and Girls were also presented today. There was huge competition for these awards with many players very deserving of the award. A very difficult decision to make! Congratulations to Walter Webb (Junior boy), Grainne Thompson (Junior girl), James Ingram (senior boy) & Sinead Thompson (senior girl) who were presented with their awards.
